Most Recently Baked Cake

This was the first fruit cake order I received since I moved to Sierra Leone. I had made fruit cakes previously in Nigeria for weddings but none in Sierra Leone. Good a thing the client ordered 3 weeks in advance so I had the opportunity to send her a sample and tweak the final cake to her specifications.

She really wanted a lot of detail in the final finishings. I placed an order almost immediately but with COVID-19 my shipment arrived 5 days after the cake delivery date so I had to improvise all the way.

It all worked out. The microphone really turned out well. The cake was delicious and I got good reviews for that. It was a bit challenging trying to get a navy blue color of fondant. In addition, I struggled with wrapping the fondant round the 10-inch high double-barreI cake because I had some cake board jutting out and I didn't leave margins when cutting out the fondant. I finally made it work and ended up with a 'drum', which worked well with the music theme.

Finally on cake delivery day, I had a minor accident when delivering the cake. Some of the fondant on the board cracked. By God's grace, I remained calm and was able to fix it. Thank God the client was gracious. To God alone be all the glory!
